A Week in Paradise: My Joy-Filled
Wellness Escape at The BodyHoliday
I arrived at The BodyHoliday at a very specific moment in my life. Having just finished writing my second book, I was absolutely exhausted and needed a holiday that gently put me back together. What I found was far more than rest. I found rhythm, nourishment, joy, and a place so compelling that I have now returned three times — and understand why it has one of the highest guest return rates of any hotel in the world.
Set on the luminous shores of St Lucia — my favourite of all the Caribbean islands — The BodyHoliday feels less like a resort and more like a blissful village devoted to wellbeing and joy. Built in the 1980s yet timeless in spirit, it has a warmth and ease that immediately dissolves tension. The atmosphere is effortlessly welcoming, with a friendliness that feels completely natural rather than orchestrated. Everyone speaks to everyone, whether you arrive alone or with friends, and conversations spark easily over breakfast, on the beach, or walking between classes. There’s a genuine sense of openness that makes it wonderfully easy to connect.
My days quickly fell into a rhythm I now crave. Mornings often began with the daily hike, winding through lush tropical paths alive with birdsong, exotic flowers, and towering greenery in every shade imaginable. Tropical birds dart between trees, flashes of colour against an impossibly vivid backdrop, while the air feels rich with life. At the end of each hike, my ritual turmeric and ginger shot awaited at the health café — a small ceremony that became one of my favourite moments of the day.
Movement here is abundant and joyful rather than punishing. The range of fitness experiences is vast: aerial yoga that makes you feel suspended and playful, high-energy spin and HIIT classes, racket sports, padel tennis, archery, and a superb fitness circuit that wraps around the entire resort. There’s also a nature trail with outdoor exercise stations woven throughout, where fitness blends seamlessly into the landscape. And for those who want to venture further, world-class local golf courses sit close by, framed by spectacular Caribbean scenery.
What sets The BodyHoliday apart is how comprehensively it approaches health. The on-site health clinic offers pre-holiday assessments and fully bespoke one-to-one consultations with doctors and physicians. Whether you’re exploring nutrition, stress, hormones, performance, or overall vitality, the experience feels deeply personal and intelligently designed. Alongside this, there’s a soothing hydrotherapy pool, a hairdresser on site, and the sense that every dimension of wellbeing — inside and out — has been genuinely considered.
One of The BodyHoliday’s most indulgent — and frankly inspired — features is the inclusion of daily treatments. Every single day. Massages, facials, wraps, body scrubs — each day becomes a gentle surrender into calm. Time slows. Muscles soften. Minds quiet. It’s the kind of ritual that feels nourishing rather than excessive, and one you find yourself quietly reorganising your day around.
And then there is the food, which is quite simply its own category. This is wellness dining at its most joyful. Lunch is a daily farm-to-fork celebration where it’s effortlessly possible to eat twenty different vegetables in one sitting, alongside beautifully prepared proteins. Homemade kimchi and ferments sit proudly among vibrant salads, roasted vegetables, grains, and flavours that feel genuinely alive. It’s colourful, deeply satisfying, and completely without deprivation — foodie heaven with a conscience.
Mid-afternoons often find me at the health café, choosing between banana bread, energy balls, or another inventive healthy treat. Fresh coconuts are served straight from the tree on the beach — nature’s most perfectly timed rehydration.
Breakfast is entirely led by how you feel. Some mornings call for a light chia and mango pudding with fresh juice at the health café; others invite lingering at the expansive buffet, where everything from local delicacies to eggs, omelettes, pancakes, waffles, breads, pastries, yoghurt, and mountains of tropical fruit are laid out in generous abundance.
Among the five restaurants, TreeHouse stands out as a genuinely transporting experience. It begins with a guided walk through the organic gardens, learning about local produce, herbs, spices, and their health benefits, before ascending into the treetops for a stunning plant-based meal. Dining surrounded by the lush St Lucian canopy, immersed entirely in nature, feels grounding, educational, and quietly magical.
Evenings unfold exactly as you wish. Days might end stretched out on one of the most striking beaches in St Lucia, or after another invigorating class or game, before drifting into sunset cocktails under the stars with Caribbean music floating through warm night air. Beach parties bring barefoot joy, while after dinner you’ll often find guests gathered around the piano in the lounge, singing together or dancing late into the night. The Windows restaurant offers fine dining with a different theme each evening — from Asian to Italian — while the Asian restaurant delivers favourites like chicken satay, nasi goreng, and excellent sushi. Beach buffet nights are relaxed, convivial, and endlessly easy.
The staff are not only attentive but sincerely encouraging, creating an environment where you feel both supported and completely at ease. Many will happily join guests for lunch or sunset drinks on the beach, blurring the line between host and companion in the loveliest way. Regular cocktail parties add to the social warmth, and for those travelling solo there’s even a dedicated Solo table — making it simple and natural to meet like-minded people and feel part of the community from the very first day.
Beyond the resort gates, St Lucia reveals itself as a land of coffee, cocoa, and banana plantations, dramatic peaks and postcard-perfect beauty. Yet each time I return to The BodyHoliday, there is the same unmistakable feeling of coming back to something familiar and deeply comforting.
I came the first time seeking recovery. I return now because it represents something far more enduring — a place where health, pleasure, movement, food, and human connection exist in rare and genuine balance. It’s not simply a holiday. It’s a deliberate act of self-restoration, and one that stays with you long after the tan fades. I leave each time stronger, calmer, and more myself. That, ultimately, is the only review that matters.
